Oh my goodness, reading this brought back so many memories, BAD, of traveling through DFW. I once had a similar experience where I arrived at a gate, was directed to another terminal, arrived at that gate to be directed back to a different gate at the previous terminal, and arrived at that gate just as the doors for my flight were closing. (They don't open them again once they're closed.)
